‘Closure of VUmc is not on the agenda’

‘The closure of the VUmc location is not on the agenda,’ a spokesperson for Amsterdam UMC said in response to an article on the website Follow the Money.

According to FTM, the boards of six hospitals in the region and delegates of health insurers Zilveren Kruis and CZ discussed a secret report by consultancy firm Gupta Strategists about the step-by-step dismantling of VUmc, which merged with AMC eleven years ago.

‘In recent years we have in fact invested heavily in the VUmc location, think of RDC Adore and the Imaging Center,’ the spokesperson said.

There is, however, consultation between hospitals in the Amsterdam region and health insurers Zilveren Kruis and CZ about the organization of health care in the long term. ‘All hospitals are facing staffing shortages, a rising demand for health care and necessary investments in the hospitals.’

The report by Gupta Strategists contains a number of scenarios for the future, which apparently includes the closure of VUmc. ‘It is a recommendation, which we will discuss together.’
